I’m Em. I like food.
This is me on my most recent birthday in May. I baked that cake and churned that ice cream. I did not grow those strawberries.
I found myself wanting to find a way to collect all of those random recipes I’ve been finding over the years and post them to one site. I also want to find a way to connect with my friends and family who live nearby and far away. Maybe I can even create some new friends along the way. I’m not the most extroverted person in the world, and I keep to my routines, so this blog is a way for me to put myself out into the world. I have a whole lot of inspiration from the blogging community out in the internet world. I list a few of those inspirations in my Blogroll.
Besides those websites, my everyday inspirations come from where I live and breathe. Here’s a glimpse.
The Place: I have found home in Portland, Oregon after moving here six years ago from Pennsylvania. I love this town, but still find some Pennsylvanian ways rooted in me.
This is Scott and Nia at the infamous Gum Wall in Seattle.
Scott is my husband, best friend, counselor, sous chef, food critic, editor, and the best road trip companion I could imagine.
And did I mention bartender? He’s pretty crafty when it comes to cocktails. This is the prep work he’s doing to make me a killer Hendrick’s Martini.
This is the kid.
Nia is a 14 year old Chihuahua mix with a ton of spunk. She likes hanging in the kitchen when I’m cooking, because I tend to drop a lot of stuff. She scored some cucumbers in these pics (not the same cucumbers Scott was prepping in the earlier photo).
What We Eat:
A lot of random things. My favorite food is cheese. Scott really likes a good steak every now and then. And in Nia’s perfect world, she’d eat red meat, rotisserie chicken, pastries, and freshly cut broccoli, which she has been stealing from the garden as of late. We also really enjoy fresh asparagus, quinoa, angel hair pasta, eggs, and chocolate, just to name a few.
What We Don’t Eat:
Me: Cilantro and Goat cheese. I’ve tried, but I just can’t get over those distinct flavors.
S: Fish, bell peppers, mushrooms (excluding the truffle), and melons.
Nia: leafy greens (it’s a texture thing).
